Spending the day cleaning the house and listening to Air America. A few days ago we found a cockroach in the cabinets, and for years there were none in my house, a point of pride. I think Ive seen them occasionally, actually; during the cold parts of winter. They are just seeking shelter, no? couldnt be due to the cleanliness of our kitchen, which is never in question. So weve been leaving the plates out a little too often, or maybe the cupboards are just more full of food than they ever have been. Im cleaning.
Reading Hawkings A Brief History of Time, a book I started in college, and never got more than halfway through.
Went jogging today too.
The other day i found a box on the sidewalk full of video games that someone's mother had thrown out. There was a nintendo, a nintendo 64, a playstation, and tons of games like mario, and bond 007, and tetris, and gameboy games too. now i have a special longing for these things, but i refuse to ever actually invest money into buying them. but still i grabbed the box and took it home. only problem, it stunk of urine. well i thought they had been outside a day or two and some dogs had marked it just like everything that is out on the street. Still, weighing the worth of this treasure trove of stuff versus a little piss; i figured it could be cleaned. Well, scrubbing down the nin. 64 and two controllers, and the James Bond game proved to be just downright nasty. no matter how much soap and hot water, and bleach and scrubbing bubbles cleaner I used, the pee persisted. The sad thing was, the games completely worked. But i had to throw them out, because I was gagging and litteraly physically reacting to the smell.
That's how lame i am. Keep in mind i really am beyond usually taking stuff off the street, its just that this seemed so promising.
Last night, k and I took our friend Elizabeth out for dinner and some good old modern minimalist dance. It was a thank you gesture for acting as our minister at our wedding. After all, she had to go online and get certified in a church. So we went to this cool place on 29th and 3rd avenue, called Vatan. Its a pre-fixed vegetarian Indian restaurant, every table is decorated to look like a little hut in an Indian village. Trees and elephants and murals surround us, and the food is exquisite. You get small tastes of like 20 different foods, plus soup, rice, icecream, indian tea, puffy bread, and explanations for everything. Elizabeth is so funny, :" you won't laugh at me if i eat this wrong?" she says to the waitress.
Afterwords, a nice walk down to St. Marks Church on 10th and 2nd, where we watched this dancer do a performance improv. with sound and the Fibonnacci Series (is that spelled right?) In a word, it was not so good. but it was fun to get out and try to wrap our heads around something different for a little while. and Eliz. was gracious enough to not complain. I always feel kind of awkward when i take people to some sort of performance art that ends up being lame. Its even worse when I'm the performer. heh.
